I am an alum of Mumbai University. I completed my engineering some time back and a lot has changed since then. But what has not changed is the importance of referring old question papers to prepare for your exams.
Mumbai university has a tendency of repeating questions from previous years in the examination, so if you have look at them you will have a fare idea of what can come in the exam. if the same questions do not show up in the exam, looking at question papers from past examination will help you understand what are the important sections of the syllabubs, so that you can focus your attention to these sections.
You should look at old questions as part of your exam preparation. Collect past five years of papers. Look at the questions and topics that have occurred most frequently in the past five years. Be sure to prepare for these questions. You have to prepare for exams in a smart way. So selecting important topics and preparing for them is a smart strategy. Once you have covered these questions, there is a good chance you have completed a major part of your exam preparation.
Your library should have these as educational resources for you. If you library does not have these then many book stores keep copies of old question papers. Some of them can also be found online. First years engineering papers are easier to find online and papers for branches like Information Technology (IT), Computer Science (CMPT), Electronics (TRONIX) and Electronics and Telecommunication (ETRX). However it is difficult to find papers of Chemical (CHEM), Civil, Electrical (TRICAL) online.

Although university questions papers are good to prepare for exam, they are not the best way to understand your study material which you will have to use in your career which lies ahead. So while it is good to be smart and use Mumbai university question papers to prepare for exams, there is no substitute for understanding and using the knowledge you have gained by going over your course material.
