Computer Engineering in Mumbai University

Computer engineering in a Mumbai University affiliated institute is a four year degree program. The general structure of the program is very similar to Information technology.

The degree is divided in to eight semester with near fixed curriculum for each semester. There are some elective courses which a student has to select from in the final year. There also about 2-4 project done through out the degree program.

Ideally Information technology should be more software oriented and Computer engineering should be more hardware oriented but the course contents is 95% similar. The job market for graduates of either of these two discipline of engineering is also the same.

What are the differences between ETRX and Comps? (In terms of jobs and higher studies?)

I am currently doing Electronics (Just started SE) and have the opportunity to shift to Comps.
I am quite confused, should I shift or shouldn’t I?.

I think you should stick with the filed that interests you the most. Both branches have decent job markets. If you finish your masters in Etrx there is still a good chance of doing your masters in computers. However if you are more interested in computers, it would make sense to move to computers. For now the job market is much better for computers and IT.

Thanks a lot for the comments.

I think I will continue with ETRX as I am very interested in Embedded Systems.
